Bauman Moscow State Technical University (BMSTU) is one of the oldest engineering universities in Russia. It traces its history back to July 1st, 1830, based on a decree of the Emperor of Russia Nicholas I. In 1867, Imperial Moscow Technical School received the status of a higher educational institution. Since then, BMSTU has prepared about 200 thousand highly qualified specialists.
BMSTU graduates and professors have done a lot for the development of world engineering science. The whole world knows about civil and military aircraft of A.N. Tupolev and P.O. Sukhoi. N.A. Dollezhal designed the world’s first nuclear power station, S.A. Lebedev designed the first in Europe (and USSR) computer, S.P. Korolev headed the development programmes of the world’s first earth satellite, the first space flight of Y.A. Gagarin, laid the foundations for the first orbital space station, flights to the Moon and Mars. Among the cosmonauts, 11 are graduates of BMSTU.
At present, BMSTU has about 30 research and educational centres, the equipment and research in which are at the forefront of world science.
Foreign citizens have been studying at BMSTU since 1952. The training, with the exception of some programmes, is conducted in Russian. Currently, about 1500 foreign citizens from 74 countries located on different continents study at BMSTU: from the CIS countries, such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Tajikistan, etc.; from the countries of Southeast Asia, such as China, Vietnam, Myanmar, India, Korea, Mongolia, etc.; from the countries of the Middle East and Africa, such as Syria, Egypt, Iran, Tunisia, Kenya, Yemen, etc.; from European countries, such as Turkey, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Serbia, Montenegro, etc.; from the countries of North and South America, such as Mexico, Cuba, the USA, Brazil, Guatemala, Peru, etc.
There are Bachelor programmes (4 years), Master programmes (2 years), Specialist programmes (5 years 10 months), PhD programmes (3-4 years). Together with foreign universities, there are joint scientific internships, network programmes, programmes of inclusive education and double degree programmes.
In order to improve the quality of education for non-CIS citizens, the Faculty of International Educational Programmes (FIEP) was established at BMSTU in 2011.
The Faculty has the Preparatory Department, which is aimed at helping foreign applicants with intensive study of the Russian language or improving their proficiency to a level sufficient for admission to the university and mastering the educational programmes. In addition to the Russian language, students of the Preparatory Department have the opportunity to improve their level of knowledge in such specialized subjects as mathematics, physics, informatics, chemistry, social studies and some others.
Students of the Faculty study according to their individual curricula and can receive education in almost the entire wide range of training areas that exist at BMSTU, among which the following fields can be distinguished:
Practice shows that foreign graduates of BMSTU become highly qualified specialists and form the scientific and engineering elite of the countries they come from.
During the entire period of study we create all the necessary conditions for our foreign students. At the university kiosks students can buy scientific and educational literature produced by the printing house of BMSTU at discount prices. All students are provided with halls of residence located not far from the university. At the university and halls of residence there are numerous canteens, buffets, coffee bars and other food outlets. Our own medical centre conducts monitoring and provides necessary medical care to students.
Our students have the opportunity to have a good free time. The location of BMSTU in the centre of Moscow creates comfortable conditions for visiting theatres, museums, concert halls, historical and architectural monuments.
We have two of our own concert halls for 600 and 1200 seats, where the best artists of Moscow and Russia give their performances. Students themselves can show their talents by participating in various creative contests and joining different student music, choral and theatre ensembles of the university.
We have excellent conditions for doing sports of 32 kinds. Our own sports complex, designed according to the Olympic standards, has fitness facilities, a 25х50m swimming pool, a track-and-field athletics area, tennis and badminton courts, volleyball and basketball playgrounds, a football pitch, playgrounds and facilities for other sports.
